Waylon — 16-year-old, 14hh Haflinger
Waylon is a been-there, done-that Haflinger with a ton of real-world experience. He has foxhunted for three seasons in 2nd and 3rd flight and has extensive trail experience. He is extremely solid on the trails with no spook under saddle. He will happily ride out alone and is equally comfortable leading or following when ridden in a group.
He has been through obstacle courses and will go through water, over bridges, across tarps, and more. He has been ridden both English and Western and also has a history of driving.
Waylon gets along well with other horses and is not mean in the pasture. He is barefoot with great feet, an easy keeper, requires no maintenance, and is UTD on everything. He cross-ties, trailer-ties, and high-line ties.
The important part: Waylon is a quirky horse on the ground and needs a very specific type of person. He is head and ear shy and very fearful of people if approached too quickly. He can be hard to catch and needs to be loaded onto a trailer a particular way. We believe he may have been mistreated in his past, which likely contributes to much of his fear and behavior on the ground.
Once Waylon trusts and bonds with his person, he improves considerably, but he still does best with slow, quiet, deliberate handling. He is the type of horse who really needs one consistent person who is willing to learn him and earn his trust.
He is not appropriate for a beginner or inexperienced handler. An experienced, patient horseperson who can appreciate his quirks while taking advantage of his extensive experience under saddle would be the best fit.
Despite his fearfulness on the ground, Waylon has no history of kicking, bucking, or biting.
He has a lot to offer the right person, but finding the right home and right match is the priority.
